| in and out |
[Jul. 30th, 2008|10:10 am] |
So I"ve been off the LJ radar and traveling a lot in the last couple months. I've been to Thailand (twice), Okinawa, Hong Kong, Cambodia, and heading out to Australia in a couple of days. If you are on facebook, you might have seen my photos. A lot of my friends and fellow JETS are leaving or have already left for home this week, so it's been a rough week full of goodbyes. It's strange, but a couple years ago, i would write in LJ all the time, but recently I haven't felt the urge at all. I think half the time I have nothing to say, and half the time too much is happening for me to express it in words. below is photo i took at sunrise at Sra Slang, near Angkor Wat in Cambodia.-later Jun |

to do before end of term:
1. Korean midterm tomorrow. (riiight...midterm during dead week. cute.>_<)
2. 1200 word essay and study for my History Final on Wednesday
Consume mass quantities of Red Bull 3. Term presentation in Japanese on Thursday 4. Final script and Movie review for Korean on Friday (adding new homework assignments = ::sob::) 5. Final in Korean on next Monday.
Eat ♥sugar coookies ♥from Dough Co.
It's sad that I know more about syphilis (yay, lesions!), beriberi (no more rice for you!) and tuberculosis (tubercle bacilli!) than any one person should. And prostitutes, let's not forget them.
Things that made my day: I got a free energy drink today walking back home from campus. It was awesome, like winning the energy drink lottery. ♥♥ There was a massage program tonight! I got a 10 minute massage before starting my paper. *^_^* My 언니 bought me lunch, and I got to eat kazunoko nigiri ♥♥

I think someone knows i have shit to do this week, because all of my favorite tv shows are not running new episodes . >。<;; Heroes, Ugly Betty, CSI, Grey's ...all reruns until April.
BTW, this sudden surge by networks to rerun their shows online? awesome ^_^
I guess this means the blanket will get done sooner, since I'm working in the Eug over break.

| Boredom |
[Jan. 12th, 2007|02:30 pm] |
I have a friend who is always prepared for boredom. No matter where she goes, she carries a book, homework, knitting, sudoku...something in the case acute boredom or waiting strikes. case in point, the 10 minute gap between classes? She manages to knit 2 rows of a scarf. I show up late for a lunch meeting? She is half way through a sudoku puzzle.
how i wish i had her foresight, because now i'm sitting in the computer lab waiting my ass off for a professor to return from where-ever-the-hell she went so i can check out a microphone and start my damn weekend. If i had foresight, i would have brought reading, or homework, or knitting...something! but instead i run to and from the lab to her office every 10 minutes to check if she's back... freaking out the other people in the office and lab....
i'm so very un-intelligent right now, it is killing me! ;_;

| Happy Happy Holidays |
[Dec. 25th, 2006|01:52 pm] |
I am back in Eugene! I spent the last week at home with my family, having a early Christmas. It feels strange because last year I did so much during the winter holidays in Japan. But i feel better just going home for a couple days than I did with all the trips and temples and festivals of last year. I ate and ate and ate the entire time I was home. It was beautiful ^_^ I also finished three Christmas hats in record time. My friend Haylie came home with me, and we shopped like crazy! I got Brain Age and New Super Mario Brothers for Christmas!! I've been playing like crazy the last couple day, but I honestly just stink at traditional Mario games...>_< I can't get past world 2! ;_; I also got a ton of yarn and tasty goodies!
I was happy to see friends and family in the short window I was home, and to everyone I didn't get a chance to see, Have a Happy Holiday and Great New Year.

I got new shoes! now i don't have to keep super gluing my old ones together to keep the rain out :P i had thanksgiving left overs for lunch and it was amazing..stuffing always seems to taste better the day after..and having pumpkin pie for breakfast is awesome.
off to take a nap..i'm aiming to finish my JET app tonight...and have more pie *_* -later Jun

My JLPT is only 1.5 weeks away! >_< This weekend, my friend Haylie came down from La Grand for a vist. Unfortunatly I was on duty, so the hanging out was condensed into trips to Sunrise and Old Navy. I had a Korean midterm, a Japanese presentation and a oral final..back to back this morning. I'm feeling a little fried.I tried to study just now and almost fell asleep right here in the lab. -_-zZ
I borrowed the last 8 episode of Heroes from a friend and watched them all..only to miss last night episodes to study! it's a good show, much better than I expected it to be.

This weekend flew by! I didn't do much on friday night other than contemplate the merits of having a mike's(yes, alicethephallus they are still in my fridge. there isn't a expiration date is there?)
Saturday revolved around being up early for the LLC grand opening and seeing how many gourmet hot chocolates and sushi a person can consume in 3 hours. bopped around my room, watched Flavor of Love for the 6th time, and then saw The Prestige with skeets. I still can't decide if i liked it or not...it's a very dark movie, and i didn't walk out of the movie feeling particularly happy. I also want to see The Departed and The Fountain in the near future...in other words all movies prefaced with the word "the". ^^;; and Happy Feet, because fluffy animated penguins are cute. And Nightmare before x-mas in 3D.
Sunday....i didn't wake up til 1ish, tried and failed to do homework and ended up watching True Life :I'm a Jersey Shore Girl on MTV. stopped by a co-worker's birthday party and got to shoot some droids in Star Wars Battlefront 2.
And here i am , only 3.5 weeks away from my JLPT exam and the due date for my JET application.
::sigh::

[Oct. 30th, 2006|10:43 am] |
Halloween weekend is always fun living in the res. halls.
I saw a bunch of girls dressed as x-rated version of Disney pincesses, nurses, policewomen, angels, devils, french maids etc. it was at least less than 40 degrees after dark all weekend. I was cold in fleece pants and a sweatshirt. While I understand dressing sluttily is acceptable on Halloween, at least have the common sense to wear a coat to and from your party. If we have a pneumonia outbreak in the hall, there will be death.
I was supposed to study for my JLPT this weekend but instead I: a)cleaned my room b)played Battlefront c)watched the Flavor of Love reunion special d)made whipped cream out of heavy cream using two forks.it took me an hour.>_< e)bought some amaaaazing 97 cent shirts from Old Navy f) all of the above
I did manage to do my laundry and weave in the tapestry studio for an hour yesterday... Anyways, what are YOU dressing up as for Halloween?

Damn it! I don't know if it's just being sick these last couple of days, but I want to sleep at any/every moment of the day. I ♥ Nyquil and Dough Co.
alicethephallus came down and visited me last weekend, and it was really fun! We went yarn shopping, bubble tea drinking, regular drinking etc...but i would go and catch the plague of death the night before she got here. >_<

| you, in the back! |
[Oct. 19th, 2006|02:25 pm] |
I went to the Asian Studies director yesterday, and was really pleasantly surprised. It turns out that the major requirements changed over the summer, and due to a director change, I just never found out, and the website is out of date. In short, this means that instead of having to take 16 credits of history to graduate. I needed 16 credits of literature, history or art history. Thanks to my Japanese major, I've already completed the JPN 305-07 literature sequence and I took Edo Travel Writing , so i technically could have graduated already >_< I wish they had let me know this 6 months ago, so I would have planned differently for this year.
But what this does is take a huge stress off for me, because it means that I can continue to take japanese and korean this year, and pick up 1 history course a term ,instead of cramming 2-3 history classes a term.
I still have a mountain of application to work on, including JET and grad. school things. The question of "What the !@#$ am I going to do after school?" seems to hang in the forefront of my mind all the time.
I'm really relieved to know I'm not the only one who feels/felt this way the year before graduating. ❤

| My brain can not compute |
[Sep. 21st, 2006|02:26 am] |
picked up from Candy Addict
Your Age in Chocolate! It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read … Be sure you don’t read the bottom until you’ve worked it out!
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10) 2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold) 3. Add 5 4. Multiply it by 50 5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1756 … If you haven’t, add 1755. 6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born. ( Click here next )
Any math geniuses out there that know why this works?? It guessed my age correctly. -later jun |

| Back In Eugene! |
[Sep. 7th, 2006|10:03 am] |
I'm back and all moved in to my new room. My TV would not let me see channels 35-68 for some reason when I plugged it in, and I couldn't add channels because my universal remote doesn't have an add/del button!
I was all set to buy the 30$ replacement remote when my boss's wife commented they have the same remote. I borrowed it last night and long story short, I have cable!!!! And that means I can watch the finale of Design Star on HGTV this Sunday!
I must have racked up some good karma points :)
Yesterday I went to Target with skeets and then did a little wushu practice in the rec (and then the turf field). I have forgotten everything! X_x even 10 step, which we practiced for 3 months. And 2.5 is all mixed up inside my head...don't even talk to me about my straightsword form and the first half the the Nanquan form I was learning.
New contact info in a locked post next.

[Sep. 5th, 2006|11:45 am] |
I'm moving down for school tomorrow! O_o I'm not even close to being done packing. I want to bring a TV down with me this year, but that and my fridge take up the whole backseat of the car. so...I've been chucking clothing like a mad woman, and not taking any books with me this year.(how many times did i read them last year? not a one time)
Unfortunately my mom has this thing about being able to see out the back window while driving. ^^;;
In other news, my Branching out scarf is now 8 repeats long. ( I ripped out 3 repeats yesterday after discovering a missed yo in the 9th repeat. i <3 lifelines) with any luck, it will be done by next winter.
I've been trying to knit soley out of my stash at the moment, since I have so much yarn...and no money. what was this love affair with mohair/fun fur/ red heart i had in the first year I learned to knit?? what was I thinking? oh well...i hope some of you out there want fun fur scarves for christmas.

| Oh the drama! |
[Aug. 30th, 2006|02:32 pm] |
I went to Netarts this weekend with a friend, and spent an inordinate amount of time lying on the pullout couch of the RV watching Design Star and Project Runway, and knitting. I actually finished something! I'm going through cable withdrawal! Someone want to tape the finale of Design Star for me? ;_;
We had Tillamook ice cream, fresh fried clams, and what I can only describe as a super grilled cheese sandwich at the Pelican Bay Pub and Brewery at Pacific City. Good food always makes vacation time better. :P It was way way too cold for us to spend any real time at the beach, but I did get a chance to go putt putt golfing and see (and smell!) lots and lots of dairy cows.
I decided to cast on for this lace scarf last night, and avoid finishing my 2nd sock heel conquer my fear of lace. Hopefully the Lambs Pride Worsted isn't too bulky for the pattern to show up.
only 1 week left before I move back down for school.
I ran into a girl I knew from high school today at the gym, and it was a little awkward and weird. Is it bad I didn't feel like making small talk right after a workout?

| argyle, oh the argyle! |
[Aug. 24th, 2006|05:42 pm] |
i haven't been doing things of interest in the last week. i know, my existance without school and work is quite bleak. :P a couple of my fellow Waseda exchange friends cam and visited me last weekend. I spent way too much money, ate way too much food (totally throwing off my healthy lifestyle ;P) and generally had a great time. We hit the buffet at Todai's in Portland, and I got to eat lots of sushi that i didn't recognize. what the hell is in a Love roll? or a Crunch roll? what happened to simple names like tuna, and salmon?? So between the multiple trips to Moonstruck chocolate(Their Mayan truffle and Mayan bar are really good!) and the buffet, and the dim sum and the seriously cheap deli food at Haggen, I gained close to 6 pounds! O_o;; and after they all left, i'm back down 6 pounds. jesus. can you say yo-yo dieting?
In other news, I have been teaching myself to knit continentally, so i can do two handed, stranded fair isle( why does this sound like some strange sexual practice?? too much SatC) w/o getting the yarn all tangled up. I finished my very first mini-argyle repeat on tuesday, and I am insanely proud of myself. I know, everyone else is making bias cut, steeked, intarsia'd, lace cardigans out of mohair floss. I'm a slow learned, ok!?! j/k I am still happy i made it through the chart without any major happenings. Pictures? I got your damn pictures!
I'm off to the beach tomorrow for the weekend! -later Jun |

*celebrates*
I got my blood test results back from last week.
I am a O+. yay!
i have been trying to figure out my blood type forever, but every time i tried, something happened. The first time, I gave blood, and they sent me back a blank blood type card. >_<
the second time, i couldn't give enough for the blood test to be done.
and finally, last year I was trying to get typed before I left for Japan, when I got quarantined from donating blood until September of this year. Apparently vacationing in Malaysia makes me a Malaria and TB risk. ::cough::
In Japan, and most Asia countries, your blood type (A, B, AB or O only, sorry rare blood typers) is used to determine your pesonality, kinda like how some people use the zodiac. Some people will ask you your blood type the first time they meet you to get an idea of what kind of person you are. ( What Type are you? from Wiki ) -later Jun |
